In a remarkable display of solidarity and empowerment, Lasbela University of Agriculture, Water and Marine Sciences, in collaboration with Women’s Action Network Group (WANG), hosted a vibrant function and panel discussion titled “Women, Challenges, and Opportunities in Balochistan” to commemorate International Women’s Day.
The event was graced by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen, who attended as the Chief Guest, alongside Mr. Khalil Ahmed Roonjha, representing WANG. Students from various departments actively participated in the program, contributing to a rich discussion on gender equality and the opportunities that can shape a brighter future for women in Balochistan.
The panel featured prominent speakers, including Head of Sociology Department, Latif Mansoor, Assistant Professor of International Relations, Dr. Rubina Khan, Lecturer of Sociology Department, Shumaila Kamal, and Hafsa Qadir, who participated on behalf of WANG. Together, they addressed pressing issues such as women’s rights, education, equality, empowerment, and the urgent need for providing more opportunities for women in society.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Malik Tareen emphasized the significance of International Women’s Day, stating that it serves as a reminder of the profound social, economic, cultural, and political contributions of women. “Women hold a very high position in our society and their active participation alongside men is essential for the progress and development of any nation,” he added. His words resonated strongly with the audience, underscoring the importance of women’s inclusion in all areas of life for a prosperous and thriving society.
The women participating in the panel discussion highlighted that rights, access to education, equality, and empowerment are critical to bridging the gender gap. They also emphasized that International Women’s Day was established not only to honor the global women’s rights movement but also to protect and secure the future of women around the world.
Earlier in the event, Mr. Abrar Roonjha from WANG delivered an insightful presentation, shedding light on the mission of WANG and its role in advocating for women’s rights and social justice.
